This Sonus Custom 5 is a sterling example of Joe Zon’s craftsmanship. One look reveals Joe’s amazing attention to detail, and wood crafting sensibilities. This fine instrument features a select “Gallery” top of exquisitely figured burled myrtle on medium weight ash body.
Equipped with Bartolini soapbar pickups this bass is well suited to “traditional” as well as more “modern” applications, and minimizes the effort to be intelligible by providing BIG, clear, focused, thick, articulate, and powerful notes.
Its on board electronics provide tremendous versatility and control. A variety of “useable” sounds may be accessed with its intuitive Poly Fusion preamp which yields a marvelous fusion of “tight, articulate, and Hi-Fi” balanced with “warm, juicy, and buttery”.

The best sound that one can get by “crossing” a P Bass with a J… without the annoying “spread or hollow” tonal variations, or that ultra throaty, but sometimes thin and “nasal” quality that J basses sometimes exhibit. If you like those sonic characteristics then this bass is definitely not for you.
This bass yields the “thickness” of the main part of the frequency range without the extension into the ultra lows, or uber highs. Not compressed… just thick and focused. You can “knock down the loudest drummer with this baby”.
